Usually my little dogs chase flies, as that's what is usually in our house, with all the large animals outside. The best ones are those big flies that fly like a bomber, slow and erratically. They try to bite them and once in a while are successful. They jump at them, bound and just spaz out.
Outside in the yard, Pacino keeps patrol of the yard, making sure the doves and grackels don't get too close. Pacino will sit under the swingset yapping and jumping to chase the doves off it, or sit at attention scanning the yard for any birds that might, on the slightest chance of provoking him into a charge, be walking in HIS grass. If he finds one, he charges it. He never gets close, but he thinks that he's doing a pretty good job. Ralfie used to watch the yard, but he has given it over to Pacino.
A couple of days ago, we were just getting ready to come in and he was with me, and he saw a butterfly that was just flitting around, up and down, no real direction but where the flitting took it. Pacino lunged at it, over and over, jumping into the air. He would lose track of it, and then be really spazzy about finding it again. Once he'd see it, it would start all over again, the jumping, the lunging, the spazziness that only you can find from a chihuahua. Maybe its just mine. :)
The butterfly won, flying high, leaving Pacino wondering and almost panicing, trying to find that butterfly.
